Web3 Labs is part of the EEA community of organizations working to advance Ethereum and drive industry adoption. In the Q&A below, the EEA interviewed Founder and CEO Conor Svensson about how Web3 Labs is contributing to the ecosystem to help Ethereum reach its full potential.

Please introduce your company and yourself briefly.

I’m Conor Svensson, founder and CEO of Web3 Labs. Web3 Labs is a blockchain technology and services company that works with large corporations on strategic blockchain initiatives and blockchain protocol companies. Our clients include Microsoft, JP Morgan, Vodafone, ConsenSys, and R3.

We’re also responsible for the widely used Web3j Ethereum integration library and Epirus blockchain explorer for Quorum and Besu networks.

What first brought you to the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, and why did you decide to become a member?

After the EEA launch event in February 2017, I scrambled to find a way to get involved, so we joined when membership opened in May 2017. I saw the value of having some of the world’s largest companies getting behind Ethereum technology, and we wanted to be a part of it.

What are you currently working on with regards to Ethereum? How will end-users benefit from your work?

I’ve just released a book, The Blockchain Innovator’s Handbook: A leader’s guide to understanding, adopting and succeeding with this disruptive technology. It is a guide to help corporate leaders learn about blockchain technology and how to embrace it.

Ethereum gets significant coverage because it is one of the foundational blockchain technologies and a key enabler of the growth of many innovations – such as tokens, NFTs, DeFi and decentralized identity. I also discuss the importance of industry organizations, including the EEA. This helps tie a lot of the concepts together with the enterprise focussed landscape.

All proceeds from the book sales are going to a charity called Skylarks which supports parents and caregivers of neurodiverse children via a free advisory service they run. Some pretty cool people have endorsed the book including the EEA’s very own Executive Director, Dan Burnett, and Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and founder of ConsenSys!

We also continue to support and maintain Web3j for enterprise developers building on Ethereum, and our Epirus Blockchain Explorer for Enterprise Ethereum networks.

How will the EEA enhance your organization’s current efforts?

Being part of the network is an advantage. I’ve been involved in the EEA for over four years now, and spent three years as the Technical Specification Working Group chair. I appreciate firsthand how many great people and companies are involved within the EEA and how passionate they are about Ethereum in an enterprise context.

What EEA programs are you most excited about?

I’m biased due to my involvement, but the work of the Technical Specification Working Group still excites me – these standards are super important. Also, I love the work of the Mainnet and DeFi interest groups, as they’re taking positive steps to get enterprises working with the public Ethereum network, with initiatives like the Baseline Protocol.
